What is the Greek National Cadastre?

The national Cadastre is intended to be more contemporary and integrated than the old system of Registrations and Mortgages supported by the Land Registry Offices (also referred as Mortgage Registries) and will ultimately replace these registrations.

The registration at the national Cadastre is effected in stages, per region. It is worth noting that in certain regions of Greece the registration at the National Cadastre has already been effected and the relevant cadastral offices are in full operation, whereas in other regions the registration is not yet open.

It is imperative, that owners of properties in Greece or holders of any registrable rights on such properties, proceed to the registration of their property or rights immediately, as failure to do so may result in such property being classified as belonging to an “unknown owner”, even though that property or right may be registered in the old system of Land/ Mortgage Registry Offices.
